Before you connect a client
- SSHive Pro, on a Mac. The MCP server is part of Pro ($12.99, one-time purchase) and exists only in the Mac app (macOS 12 or later, Apple silicon). The iPhone and iPad app has no MCP server.
- The server switched on. In Settings > MCP, turn on "Enable MCP server". It listens on 127.0.0.1 only, on port 49422 unless you change it.
- The Bearer token. SSHive creates it when you switch the server on, and your client sends it with every request. It stays the same until you regenerate it.
- Sessions to work on. The assistant works on the SSH and SFTP sessions open in SSHive, through 20 tools. The 3 tools that list your profiles and open or close sessions appear only once you turn on "Let the assistant open sessions".
- One copy-paste. An App Store app is not allowed to write another app's configuration, so SSHive shows you a command or a block to paste. The Claude Desktop extension is the exception: it installs in one click.
