Remote Desktop (RDP)

Embedded RDP client powered by IronRDP (Rust). Full keyboard, mouse, and clipboard support. No external window — everything stays in SSHive.

Connecting from macOS to Windows desktops or servers usually means firing up Microsoft Remote Desktop or a third-party RDP client in a separate window. SSHive embeds a full RDP client directly in the same window as your SSH sessions — powered by IronRDP / freerdp-native, with full keyboard, mouse and clipboard handling. No external app, no window-juggling, no forgotten credentials in another keychain. Keyboard mapping handles the macOS-to-Windows quirks: `Cmd+C` and `Cmd+V` translate to `Ctrl+C`/`Ctrl+V` on the remote host, function keys work, and the AltGr layer is handled correctly for international keyboards. Clipboard syncs in both directions for text. Resolution adapts to your Retina display, including dynamic resize when you change SSHive's window size.

When RDP from a Mac matters

Manage Windows Server VMs

Connect to Windows Server 2019/2022/2025 instances on Hyper-V, ESXi, or AWS EC2. Domain-joined and workgroup logins both work; NLA (Network Level Authentication) is supported for hardened hosts.

Cross-platform dev workflows

Test your app on Windows from a Mac without rebooting into Boot Camp or running Parallels. Use a remote Windows VM, RDP into it from SSHive, and you keep your macOS dev environment untouched.

Help desk / support

Connect to client machines via RDP through a VPN or SSH tunnel. Combine SSHive's tunnel feature with RDP to reach Windows machines on private networks without exposing port 3389 to the Internet.

RDP — frequently asked questions

Is RDP available in the free tier?+
No. RDP is a Pro feature. Free tier covers the SSH terminal, SFTP file manager, snippets, and Keychain-based credential storage. The Pro upgrade adds RDP, VNC, tunnels, broadcast and MCP integration.
Can I copy-paste files via RDP?+
Currently text clipboard only. For file transfers, use SSHive's SFTP pane in the same window — it's usually faster anyway because SFTP doesn't have the RDP framing overhead.
