Your SSHive Pro license
This page is about the direct version of SSHive. On the App Store, Pro is tied to your Apple account: Settings > License, “Restore Purchases”.
Activate your key
- 1Open SSHive, then Settings > License.
- 2Paste your license key and click “Activate”.
- 3The message “SSHive Pro is activated on this Mac” appears.
From the Pro window, “I have a license key” leads to the same place.
Activating needs a connection to the internet: SSHive sends the key, a fingerprint of this Mac and the name of this Mac to NetMeSafe’s license server, which answers with a license for this Mac alone. Nothing about your servers, your profiles or your sessions (privacy policy).
Without a connection
Once activated, Pro works with no connection at all. When the Mac is online, SSHive re-checks the license at most once every 7 days, and an outage of the license server takes nothing away. Past 60 days without having reached the server, Pro is paused: connect the Mac to the internet and open Settings > License again, and Pro comes back as soon as it is checked.
Moving to another Mac
A key activates on 3 Macs at the same time. On the old Mac: Settings > License, “Deactivate this Mac”. Then activate the key on the new one. Did you forget the old Mac? Activate the key on the new one anyway: when the limit is reached, SSHive lists the activated Macs and offers “Replace”. The Mac that was replaced goes back to the free version at its next license check.
A Mac lost, stolen or dead
Replace it from the new Mac as above, or free it from your Polar customer portal, through “Manage my Macs” in Settings > License opens it. Reinstalling macOS or changing the disk keeps the same Mac as far as the license is concerned; a repair that replaces the main board makes it another one.
Finding your key again
It is in the email Polar sent after the purchase, and in your Polar customer portal, which you sign in to with the email address used to pay. In SSHive, “Find my key” opens that portal.
The activation messages
What SSHive shows, and what each one calls for.
| What happened | What to do |
|---|---|
| Unknown license key. Check that it was copied in full. | Copy the key in full from Polar’s email or from the customer portal, with no space around it. |
| This license key is malformed. Copy it exactly as it appears in the purchase email. | Same thing: the key is copied in one piece, as it was sent. |
| This key is already activated on the maximum number of Macs. Replace one of them with this Mac, or free one from your customer portal. | “Replace” one of the Macs listed, or free one from the customer portal. |
| This license key has been revoked or has expired. | The key is no longer valid, after a refund for instance. Write to us if that is a mistake. |
| The license server is not responding. Check your connection, then try again. | Check the connection, then try again. A corporate firewall has to let licence.sshive.app through. |
| This key is not an SSHive Pro key. | The key pasted belongs to another product. |
| A license is already active on this Mac. Deactivate it first to activate another one. | “Deactivate this Mac” first, then activate the other key. |
| This Mac has not reached the license server for more than 60 days, so Pro is paused. Connect it to the internet, then reopen this tab to check the license. | Connect the Mac to the internet, then open Settings > License again. |
Writing to support
support@sshive.app. In Settings > License, “Copy information for support” copies the edition, the version and the state of the license, with the key masked: paste that into your message.
And the App Store?
A key bought here does not unlock Pro in the App Store version, nor on iPhone or iPad. A purchase made on the App Store does not unlock the direct version either. Compare the two versions.
