Import ~/.ssh/config
SSHive creates one server per Host entry of your ~/.ssh/config, so the servers you already reach with ssh are in the sidebar without being typed again.
By Lucas Russo, developer of SSHive · Updated
- On the welcome screen, Import ~/.ssh/config. Or, in the sidebar, More actions (⋯), Import SSH Config.
- macOS opens a file chooser: select the .ssh folder of your home folder, then Open. It is hidden, so press ⌘⇧. to show it.
- A message says how many profiles were imported. The servers are filed in a folder named Import SSH.

SSHive keeps the permission to read that folder: it finds your keys there, and the SSH agent named by IdentityAgent (see SSH agents).
What is read
In ~/.ssh/config | In SSHive |
|---|---|
Host, each alias | One server, named after the alias |
HostName, Port, User | Host, port, username |
IdentityFile | Authentication by private key |
IdentityAgent, ForwardAgent | SSH agent, Agent Forwarding |
ProxyJump, and ProxyCommand ssh -W %h:%p … | Jump chain |
LocalForward, RemoteForward, DynamicForward | Tunnels |
Include | Followed |
A wildcard block (Host *) gives the others their default values. Any other directive is ignored.
The messages
- Duplicates ignored: a server with the same host, port and user already exists.
- A key that cannot be read: pick it in the server form, with Browse.
- Free version: the import stops at 5 servers.
