SSHive Agent

Use SSHive Agent

Day to day there is nothing to do: SSHive goes through SSHive Agent as soon as a connection uses the agent of another application.

By Lucas Russo, developer of SSHive · Updated

The first time

  1. Install SSHive Agent, on the page before.
  2. In SSHive, choose your vault: Settings > Connection > SSH Agent, A vault, for all servers, then Strongbox, 1Password and so on. Or leave Automatic if your ~/.ssh/config names the agent with IdentityAgent.
  3. In your vault, turn its SSH agent on (a setting of Strongbox, the Developer section of 1Password) and unlock it.
  4. Connect to a server whose authentication is SSH Agent. The first time, SSHive asks you to Allow that agent.
  5. The vault asks for its own approval to sign, with Touch ID for instance. The session opens, and the status bar shows Agent: Strongbox, or the name of your vault.

Where SSHive mentions it

  • At launch, once. If you use one of these agents and SSHive Agent does not answer, a window offers Download SSHive Agent or Not now. It waits, and says the agent is answering as soon as it is installed. Once closed, it does not come back.
  • When a connection needs it. The tab shows a repair card, with the step Install SSHive Agent if it is missing, or Open SSHive Agent if it is stopped. The connection then starts again in the same tab.
  • Always. Settings > Connection > SSH Agent, card SSHive Agent.
